Well, I fucked up big time. I'll just get through the last match with hoofball and see how that goes.
Time to clear up a few things:
-Getting relegated does not affect my decision to leave /fit/ after I set up the Autumn Babby Cup friendlies.
-If someone wants to take the team off my hands before the next export deadlines, they are free to do so.
-The reason I had decided to stay just that little bit after the cup was to keep the team from becoming a completely dead one.
So, there's that. I apologize to all the /fit/ fans I disappointed. I'm not going to blame it on height abuse, conditions, or any other supposed form of rigging, I'm the one that led the team to this disastrous moment.

Since I don't know when I'll be able to post for the next few days, I wanted to apologise now to the /tv/ fans for the team's dismal performance this Cup. I am deeply sorry to everyone, especially to those others who work on the team.
I stand by my previous statement and I will of course step aside for FwokinMwok if he wants to manage after the cup. If he wants me to stay, as he's suggested on the wiki, I will gladly stay to help the team in any way I can.

I mean, why have Golds and Silvers? A Gold forward for example has less need for defense based stats like tackling. I think each player should be awarded with an amount of stat points, which the manager can freely distribute at his leisure. If we do that for every team, every team will become more unique, and this will make the game more rewarding for the managers. You wouldn't be able to just copy your opponent's tactics and formations and expect to perform as well. Of course, I'm sure some people will find ways to abuse this system, but proper checks should be put in place to still make the game as fair as possible. The way PES distributes its stats haven't changed much for the last decade, so you won't have to do too much work every year.

The simple idea that if you don't get relegated, you are Elite is laughable. Remember that these are cups, not leagues. Leagues have way more games, and are just generally better in determining who deserves to go down or stay.
Are all teams in the Premier League, "Elite"? If being Elite means just what you said, then even fucking Liverpool is Elite at this point. Can you apply the term Elite to teams that never win anything big, but manage to do just enough to remain in the cup/league? Nope. There's a word for that, and It's called mediocrity.
Maybe Mediocre Elite is more fitting. The only team that I thought would deserve Elite is /sp/, but due to recent Dragongate scandal, they lost one of their stars. If /sp/ win this, then they can truly be considered Elite. Still, /sp/artans are the strongest as it's pretty much the only team that has won in a non-babby competitive cup.

More friendlies could be easily added, if we want to be more realistic.
We could also increase the number of games and complexity of the cup manyfold by introducing "regional" (= groupings based on the 4chan categories) qualification tournaments, just like what you see in the real life FIFA world cup qualification. I have no doubt the viewers would be thrilled to watch the magic of proactive AI of PES every single weekend of their lives, and I await eagerly the moment the cup's commissioner becomes a hikikomori whose only purpose in life is to be completely absorbed in the world of virtual soccer. We literally cannot contain the autism and this is the only sensible way forward.
Now that seems a lot more representative of the processing power our managers have at their disposal, don't you think?

So just to prod what the hell was going on with the AI yesterday, I ran a quick /u/ vs /tv/ exhibition sim. Default preset 1, nothing fancy.
Slick play from both teams, and just a nice throughball to homuhomu making the difference, definitely no weird kickoffs or backheels to nowhere.
I can't say if this is just how my particular PC handles cups, or if this is just weird facets of GGSS/PESjp emerging as we see the more traditionally defensive elite tier play, but it doesn't seem to be spreading to exhibition tests. I definitely don't remember seeing any of it in the friendlies.
I kinda hope days 4, 5, and 6 vary the results a little bit more. We need some close win by one sorts of games.

I had a possible flash of insight: I had to build PESJP myself. Sexcopter's distribution never worked for me, and that means there's got to be something very slightly different. I know there are a couple of managers (old man sou springs to mind) who had to grab my distribution too.
I don't think it should be AI effecting, but just in case, why not make the whole mess available, you can try using it yourselves and investigate?
Unfortunately it would be an incredible pain in the ass to separate the system files and all the aesthetics stuff in there at this point, so it's going to be large. Like too large to host on the IRC server, I'd run out of bandwidth. I think a torrent is going to be the way to go here.
I've created http://50.116.23.163/BorisPESJP.torrent
It will make give you a .rar of my whole pesjp folder that will go in the install directory, along with the exe's and dll's that go in there too. Backup anything it would replace, it goes without saying.
Again, I don't expect this to really be different, but it's available if you'd like to try some science on it.

I'd like to compare and contrast PES with a Wargame. In a wargame, like 40k or Battletech or whatever, whilst you choose the actions of your units, the dice ultimately decide whether that action is effective or not. As such, players use statistics and logic to decide on the best course of action (i.e. rather than your troops who only have pistols, sending your missile units at a big armoured target like a tank).
We have a similar meta-game in the Cup, in that whilst we cannot individually control each player perfectly, you can use your understanding of the game to make tactical decisions. Admittedly the mechanics of PES are less transparent than a wargame, but you can see on the stream how Winter /sp/'s superdefensive 3-6-1 acts differently to Tinker's kamikaze 5-0-5 formation this Summer.
Yes, the game certinaly has a element of randomness, but that doesn't mean it's a 50/50 coinflip.
